The "Western Canon" is by Harold Bloom and the "Lifetime Reading Plan" is by Fadiman & Major.
I’ve been reading the books that are listed within the two above titles, but I’d love to have other interested readers to discuss the books with. Please respond if you’re "in"!
Thanks!
I’d be in. I use the lists at the back of Bloom’s Canon whenever I go to the library and get at least half my books from there.

I am president of a book club, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good books. No specific genre, choose your favorites (and please nothing like Harry Potter, Narnia, and the like… they’re good books but everyone has read them.)
We have read the following so far:
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet
~and~
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey
Bee Season, Goldberg
One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Kesey
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime
The Life of Pi
The Jungle, Sinclair
Elmer Gantry

Its www.paperbackswap.com. All you have to do is list 9 books off yours and you get 3 book credits to any books tht are in their library. Then the owner of the will send it to you. The only time you pay for anything is when you send one of your books to someone. Its GREAT!!! just remember to put me down as the person who told you about this (when you sign up there will be this question) put my e-mail at denece.lopez@coc.nmss.org.
Thanks and let me know if your going to do it!!!
They send them to your house. Its pretty cool!
okay i will! =)

book club suggestions
You see, the book club I’m in at school was called Twilight Tuesdays. We have all read twilight and we are looking for a new book to read. Every suggestion that we’ve come up with, somebody in the club has read already. Any suggestions?
BTW- we are all around 14 years old.
I’m really into the old books, like Jane Austen novels (Pride & Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Emma, Persuasion, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Lady Susan) I really enjoyed Jane Eyre too, by Charlotte Bronte. I didn’t like Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, though. Too dry. The Scarlet Letter was horrid, don’t even think about reading it. I don’t really like Steinbeck, I have no idea why, but I don’t.
More modern books I love a lot would be OBVIOUSLY the Twilight Saga, I mean, come on. And also, I loved The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I absolutely loved Night, Dawn, Day, The Judges, and The Time of The Uprooted by Elie Wisel. I liked The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I would recommend any of the books listed, plus any one of the Danielle Steel books, or Luanne Rice. Both are so very talented.
Happy Reading!
(I’m fourteen too, if you don’t like my books, don’t feel bad, but I would recommend The Book Thief out of my modern books because it has a historical value to it.)

It depends on how much the convenience is worth to you. If you have ready access to a free library they are not worth it. If you have no other way to find the books, it depends on what you think it is worth to get the books you want

I want to join a book club like BOMC2.com BUT one that has TEEN/YOUNG ADULT books. BOMC2.com is a site where you pay $9.95 a month, and every month they send you a book on your personal book list. It’s EXACTLY what I want, but it’s all "adult" type of books. I like books that are more for high school aged girls. PLEASE tell me if you know of any book clubs like this. Thank you!!
be careful about those sites, usually they have hidden charges, such as annual fee and when you didnt reach or went over the amount of books you’ve got. I wouldn’t join a book club, and just go to a local barns and nobles or books a million where they have a rewards program and you ACTUALLY get rewarded

i really want to be in a book club, but there aren’t any around where i live so my next alternative is to either start one or go online. Since i really do’t want to start one then I’m going online. so if you know any good teen free online book clubs where teens can discuss books and such then please tell me, i don’t really want to be a part of anything where you order books but if you don’t have anything else then I’ll try that. I’m already a member of all consuming but i would like something that has a little more intake then that so if you know anything please tell me.
i really can’t stress enough how i need it to be free and teen-ish cause i’m 14. thanx.
if you know what the schoolastic teen book club thing is all about tell me please
or if the club has anything at all to do with twilight series………
I am fourteen also, and I say we create a book club!
go to www.webook.com, join then message me.
